FAQ

Which Plan is right for creating My Life Story?

Each of our Plans offers a core set of features along with additional benefits designed to help you create your life story. We've made our Plans flexible so you can easily choose the best fit for your needs.

We often suggest starting with the Digital Plan. It's a wonderful way to begin answering questions and building the content for your book at your own pace.

As your story grows, you might find that professional design help (available in the Designer Plan) would be valuable, or that a beautifully printed book (part of our Premium Plan) is what you'd prefer.

The good news is you can always upgrade your Plan later! We'll simply adjust the price based on what you've already paid.

How to Create a Family Memory Book with StoryRec

Our service helps you record, organize, and preserve your family’s story in audio and text and photo formats on our platform, which can then be transformed into a beautiful gift book.

How Can You Do This?

  • Create your autobiography by answering our curated questions.
  • Gift a subscription to a loved one so they can answer our questions independently or with your help.
  • You and your family members can answer questions about a departed relative to gather all known information and memories of them in one place. You can even play audio or video recordings of your loved ones while you're answering our questions. Our service will then thoughtfully transform their words into text for the book and save the original recordings in an archive for you.

Our questions cover all aspects and stages of life, with a strong focus on family and relatives. This way, you or your loved one won’t just be recording a personal story, but the story of your entire family.

How Are You Different from Photo Book Services?

Well, we are not a photo book service :)

The result of working with StoryRec is a complete book where the main focus is on words: memories, thoughts, and reflections. By asking a variety of thoughtful questions, we help capture a person’s personal story, exploring their views, interests, identity, and perspective on life.

Of course, photos will complement this story, but at its core, it’s an autobiography.

What Should You Choose: A Printed Book or Digital Format?

The digital format is essentially the first step in creating a printed book: all materials are recorded, processed, and formed into text with photos. If you wish, you can stop at this stage as it is the most budget-friendly option.

However, we recommend the printed format included with Premium plan, as our goal is not only to record and preserve memories but also to encourage you to revisit them frequently! Photos, videos, or documents often remain stored on your device or in the cloud, while a printed book is a tangible item. You can hold it in your hands and flip through it when it catches your eye. Children can look at pictures and photos in it, and during family gatherings, you can read excerpts from a loved one’s biography.

How Many Questions Do You Need to Answer?

It all depends on what you want to achieve. We offer several formats:

  • Express: 100 questions – the minimum number that allows you to create a brief biography covering all areas of life. This format results in a biography of about 80-100 pages, perfect for those who want to preserve key moments without spending too much time.
  • Full: 200-300 questions – the optimal number to create a comprehensive biography that reveals different aspects of a person. It requires more time to record materials but captures many details.

Regardless of the format, we ensure that the questions are varied: some are simple, while others are deep and thought-provoking, making it easy and engaging to tell the story of your life.

Can I Add or Change Questions?

Yes! You can simply skip a question if it doesn’t appeal to you or isn’t interesting. You can also add your own question in writing—there will be an option to do so at the end of each section.

If you are with your loved ones while recording answers, feel free to ask clarifying or additional questions during the process. That works too!

How Much Time is Needed to Prepare Materials?

  • In our experience, you can answer about 10 questions in 1 hour. So, for a book with 80-100 questions, you should plan for at least 10 hours (plus time for selecting photos).
  • Overall, it will depend on how talkative your loved one is, how many stories they recall while answering your question, and whether additional questions are asked.

In summary: You can prepare materials in a couple of days by covering all questions at once and sending all the photos, or you can answer a few questions each week and collect photos from different places—this pace will measure book creation in months.

This Takes a Lot of Time; Can I Speed Up the Process?

Yes, but with some caveats.

You can, for instance, use the voice recording function for each answer, and our system will convert it into text to be used for the book. This significantly speeds up the information transfer from you to us.

Alternatively, you can skip more questions or set a timer for each answer.

Will I Need to Participate if I Gift StoryRec to a Relative?

We offer two ways to interact with our service:

  • Self-Service: If your relative is tech-savvy, simply send them a link or provide their email during registration. You can also show them how to use our service via smartphone or computer, allowing them to engage at their own pace. We’ve made the service as straightforward and accessible as possible.
  • Interview: Ideal for those whose relatives cannot use a computer or smartphone independently, or for those who want to enhance communication with loved ones. You are not just spending time together, but discussing important topics you might never have asked about otherwise. During the interview, you can also ask your own questions to explore topics that interest you.
  • Additional Service: Interview Without Your Involvement. Arranged separately upon request.

However, this approach may reduce the depth of engagement. We believe that every person's life is too interesting and diverse to be captured in just one hour. Our shared goal is not only to record life events but to capture their perspectives and essence. It takes time, but it's worth it!

Can I Add Photos?

Yes, absolutely! You can add photos to each answer, and this is even encouraged.

You can include up to 10 photos with each answer you provide. While it's wonderful to see your memories, remember that your future book will look best when there's a nice balance between your words and your pictures. We want to make sure every photo has room to truly shine, without making the pages feel too crowded.

Keep in mind that selecting and digitizing photos also takes time! Be sure to plan enough time for this step.

Can I Add Videos?

Not just yet, but it’s coming soon! We’re working on adding the option to upload videos of you and your loved ones, right alongside your photos.

This way, all your cherished memories—whether pictures or videos—will be neatly organized and preserved in the same archive, keeping everything structured and secure.
